Celebrating School Improvements Throughout District
In advance of students and staff returning to classrooms this fall, Langley School District’s Facilities and Maintenance teams have been hard at work throughout the summer, completing a variety of improvement projects across the district.
From major infrastructure upgrades to enhancements that beautify school grounds and create new opportunities to play and learn, these projects help ensure students and staff are welcomed back to healthy, safe, and positive learning environments.
This summer’s work included exterior painting at D.W. Poppy Secondary, a roofing replacement and new basketball court at Parkside Centennial Elementary, a bathroom facelift at Langley Meadows Community School, a new playground at Simonds Elementary, two new Gaga Ball pits at Peter Ewart Elementary, and a courtyard renovation at Brookswood Secondary, which will transform the school’s outdoor gathering space into a more welcoming environment.
Together, these projects reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing learning spaces that support student success and well-being.
“We are proud to be part of a team that turns goals and actions into meaningful improvements for District students. This summer, our teams worked on projects that improve accessibility, add opportunities for students to play and learn and beautify our schools,” said Sunny Saggu, Assistant Director of Facilities and Transportation.
The work completed over the summer aligns with the Langley School District Strategic Plan and Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (FESL), which emphasize creating inclusive, supportive learning environments where all students can thrive. Facilities and Maintenance staff continue to work closely with school-based teams and Learning Support Services staff to ensure school spaces meet the diverse needs of learners, including priority learners identified within the FESL.
“Our Facilities and Maintenance teams, along with our dedicated custodial staff and others work hard behind the scenes to make sure our schools are ready for students. We are grateful for the care and skill they bring to this work every day. Their efforts make a real difference in creating safe, inclusive spaces for all learners,” Saggu said.
In addition to these many summertime school improvements, work also continued this summer on two major capital projects: the continued construction of both Emery Dosdall Secondary and stɑtl̓əw̓ Middle School in Willoughby.
