23 new and improved schools opening in B.C., including one in Langley

As families send their kids back to school, they can take comfort in knowing more student spaces are ready and more are underway to support student learning and growth.

As more families choose Langley, we're investing in the schools that students need today and for the future," said Bowinn Ma, Minister of Infrastructure. The new addition at Langley Secondary and upcoming projects at two elementary schools will help ensure students in Langley have the space and supports they need to succeed.

Since 2017, the Province has invested in 14 capital projects in the Langley School District. Nine of these are complete, including the new addition to Langley Secondary.

Features of the new addition

The new addition began construction in January 2025.

The new addition includes:

  • 300 new seats in 12 classrooms for the Langley School District
  • general instruction classrooms, foods classrooms, a science lab and special-education rooms
  • new mechanical systems that are energy efficient and improve air quality

The Province provided $27.8 million for the project. The school district contributed $1 million.

"The board is grateful to our partners for continuing to work with us to create more spaces where students can thrive in a healthy, safe and positive learning environment and reach their full potential," said Candy Ashdown, chair, Langley Board of Education.

Work underway

Five school capital projects are underway in Langley.

This fall, construction will begin on two new additions. The Province provided $6 million for the new 100-seat addition at Josette Dandurand Elementary, and $12 million for the new 200-seat addition at Donna Gabriel Robins Elementary.

The new additions will offer modern learning environments, which include multiple classrooms and corridors similar to the recently completed projects at Nicomekl Elementary, Lynn Fripps Elementary and Richard Bulpitt Elementary in Langley.

Creating more student spaces throughout B.C.

  • Since 2017, the Province has approved more than $7 billion to create nearly 50,000 new student seats and almost 40,000 seismically safer seats in B.C. schools.
  • This includes the nearly $660 million government has approved to create 5,585 new student seats and 1,500 seismically safer seats in the Langley School District.
  • Throughout the Province, more than 29,500 new student seats and more than 35,000 seismically safer seats are being used by students.

As the province grows, government remains committed to working with school districts and municipalities to provide all students with safe, modern and inspiring places to learn.
