Wix-Brown to expand library thanks to a boost from community
October 15, 2019
How many books could you buy if you had $10,000 to spend on books? Well, that’s a conundrum that Wix-Brown Elementary is going to have to puzzle over. It’s a good problem to have!
For the last month, Wix-Brown was the recipient of the Chapters-Indigo FUNdraiser program. This is the donation that Chapters or Indigo take at the checkout, going towards reading material for kids. The goal for this month was to raise $10,000, but was exceeded by almost $400!
“We will be receiving the money in the form of Chapters gift cards which we will then use to purchase books from Chapters Indigo at a 30% discount,” says teacher, Brittany McMillan. “We are going to divide the money up between the school library, classroom libraries as well as resource, the Youth CareWorkers and Special Education Assistants.”
Not only that, when the time for purchasing the books happens, they all come at a 30% discount.
With the addition of all the new books, kids will have a wide variety of topics and interests to choose from. With such a broad library, it will inspire a passion in kids to explore and grow as readers.
“We are so surprised to be receiving so much money but we are also so thankful to all of the community and to Chapters/Indigo for all of their had work and contributions,” commented McMillan. “We are also really grateful to our PAC who helped promote the fundraiser and to all the students who made bookmarks and post cards for customers to receive.”
Thank you to Chapters/Indigo for supporting literacy in our kids!
