TEDxYouth gives voice to student ideas
December 1, 2017
Brookswood Secondary hosted this year’s TEDx Youth at Langley event on November 24. Student volunteers from REMSS and BSS organized the event along side sponsor teacher, Lorna Goulet. Speakers, funding, and promotions are all organized by the student volunteers. They had the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of event planning, including following the planning rules for the TEDx brand.
TEDx is a program that supports, according to their mission, “ideas worth spreading”. According to principal, John Pusic, TEDx Youth is an opportunity to give “students a voice to share their ideas”. Six student speakers presented at the event. Topics discussed social issues around respect, identity, and learning. Musical performances by the BSS music quartet, and two ACSS International Students, took place between talks.
If you are interested in attending a Langley TEDx event, TEDxLangleyEd is happening January 20 at the Chief Sepass Theatre. Tickets are on sale now at TEDxLangleyED.
