Welcome to the first edition of the SD35 Community Spotlight newsletter! This quarterly newsletter, created for parents, guardians, and families in the Langley School District, aims to shine a light on the incredible stories, achievements, and happenings within our school community. Over the past few months there has been much to celebrate, so please take a moment to check out our stories below. As we move forward, we hope you find this newsletter useful, fun and informative.

Message from the Superintendent
On behalf of the District, I am excited to welcome you to this first edition of our new quarterly newsletter: SD35 Community Spotlight. We hope this will serve as a useful and informative way for us to share and celebrate the amazing things happening in our school district. We look forward to keeping you updated on various initiatives, achievements, and successes that help the District become a more caring and compassionate learning community. We also want this newsletter to serve as another important connection between families and the District, helping us work together to inspire all learners to reach their full potential and create a positive legacy for the future. The Langley School District is committed to fostering a learning environment that supports all students. Under the province’s new Accessible BC Act, school districts were required to create an Accessibility Committee and an Accessibility Plan. Around the District
Earlier this fall, students and staff spent time furthering their learning about Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Activities included students creating a witness blanket, assemblies, and fine arts performances. To read more, click here.
As part of the province-wide Great Shakeout initiative, students across the District practiced their earthquake drills and learned about emergency preparedness. To read more, and watch a video from Richard Bulpitt Elementary, click here.
Earlier this month, secondary students from across the District had the opportunity to explore various career opportunities as part of “Take Our Kids To Work Day.” Students checked out various departments at the School Board Office during a day of immersive learning and fun. Read more here.
Remembrance Day and National Indigenous Veterans Day were observed across the District this month, with students embracing learning opportunities to further their knowledge on veterans’ impacts both at home and abroad. Find out more about what happened in our schools here.
Did you know we have two electric buses? The School District is committed to sustainability and energy conservation through efforts that include everything from electric buses and fleet vehicles to recycling programs. Read more here.
