Message from the Superintendent

As we head into Spring Break, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the work of students, staff, and families. Taking a look back on Diversity and Respect Week, I am pleased to have seen learning opportunities in our schools, from wheelchair basketball, multi-cultural fairs, to lessons that promote kindness inside and outside of the classroom. We should all be proud of our collective work in helping to ensure everyone feels that they belong in our schools.

What we do in the classroom is important and having a chance to communicate and share that with families is also vital to student success. Thank you to parents/guardians for continuing to be part of your child’s learning journey by taking part in student inclusive conferences at the elementary level, as well as following student reflections at the middle and secondary level. We appreciate the positive impact of the home on our student’s lives and for your ongoing partnership.

Sincerely,

Mal Gill
Superintendent of Schools

Around the District

Student Inclusive Conferences aim to amplify student voices and put collaboration and reflection at the forefront of students’ learning journeys. Learn more about them here.

Langley Meadows Community School held a Family Literacy Night, with tables of activities, selections of books, and even a reading nook. The evening was an opportunity to connect with families, support students, and promote a love of reading. Read more here.

A group of students in the District’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing program stopped by the board office to take part in a ‘Stuffies Like Me’ activity, that gave students the opportunity to pick a stuffed toy and go through the process of conducting a hearing test on their new fuzzy friend. See all the action here.

Diversity and Respect Week was celebrated in February, with a variety of activities and learning opportunities happening across the District. Find out more about why it is so important here.
