Piping & Plumbing Celebration
February 22, 2017
Langley Secondary is home to the Piping and Plumbing TRAIN program (formerly ACE-IT) and they recently celebrated the success of those graduating from the program. LSS Vice-principal Jeff Dickson, who formerly taught the program, and teacher Dave Lallee hosted the event and shared some great stories about the graduating students. The program helped them mature and grow in confidence and they found and developed their strengths through hard work and determination. The skills learned in the program have undoubtedly changed many of their life trajectories for the better. A highlight for Mr Dickson was being able to congratulate students Thakler Win and Hemlet Knyaw who came to Canada as Karen refugees, and are now both graduates of the program. Mr Dickson described some of the challenges refugee students may face and also thanked the School District Maintenance staff for supporting Thakler with a summer work placement – Thakler’s work placement Supervisor Ryan Smith and Foreman Terry Walker even came to the ceremony congratulate him on his graduation!
