Happy Holidays from the Langley Board of Education
December 18, 2024
As winter break approaches, the Board of Education would like to wish all students, staff and families a wonderful holiday season, while also taking a moment to reflect upon the year and celebrate successes both large and small.
Inside the classroom, students continue to learn and grow, while staff work to foster an environment of inclusion and belonging. Outside of the classroom, there has also been plenty to get excited about, as the Board and District staff have continued to work with the Ministry of Education and Child Care to bring new learning spaces to Langley to help with enrolment pressures.
The Board has been focused on continuing to strengthen relationships with our partners and everyone in the school community. We are amazed at all the accomplishments and celebrations that have happened in these last few months. From the opening of the first ever modular addition at Richard Bulpitt Elementary, the announcement of the building of a middle and secondary school, and more recently, the construction and naming of a new elementary school on the Willoughby Slope. The Board is proud to have named the new school in the Northeast Latimer neighbourhood Josette Dandurand Elementary, after the late Josette Dandurand, a Kwantlen First Nation elder and cultural presenter who made a difference in the lives of many students, staff, and members of the community. She worked alongside the school community on our collective journey of Truth and Reconciliation.
We are grateful and looking forward to opening the school in September, named in her honour.
On behalf of the Langley Board of Education, we hope you have a happy holiday and a joyous new year!
Candy Ashdown, Chair
