Dorothy Peacock celebrates essential service workers with Hearts of Thanks
April 11, 2020
Over the past several weeks, we’ve been thinking a lot about our Essential Services, especially about the people who help to provide those services. They are the front line force keeping us fed, healthy, and looked after.
It’s no surprise, many messages of thanks have been surfacing in our community, especially in the Dorothy Peacock community with the Hearts of Thanks initiative.
“This is a small way for the Dorothy Peacock community to say a heartfelt THANKS to all the amazing Essential Service Workers who are going above and beyond,” says Dorothy Peacock Principal, Shawn Davids. “Whether it is first responders, health care providers or truck drivers and grocery clerks, we are all so appreciative of the sacrifice they are making to keep us all safe and healthy.”
This week, students of Dorothy Peacock shared their Hearts of Thanks by emailing their Principal a picture. Shawn Davids then used those photos to make a community compilation of thanks.
“This is a confusing time for our students,” says Davids. “They are used to the routine of coming to school each day and seeing their friends, teachers, and trusted adults. In putting together the Hearts of Thanks initiative, we wanted to empower them. It is a chance for them to show gratitude for those working to keep them safe and healthy, while giving them the opportunity to begin processing these historic times in a way that is age appropriate.”
“I would encourage every community to find a way to show gratitude for the job our Essential Service Workers are doing,” says Davids. “Whether you go out at 7:00pm each night to cheer, put hearts in the windows at your home, or coordinate something on a larger scale, these incredible humans need to know how much we appreciate the work they are doing.”
