Create, Collaborate, Innovate contest grants Simonds classroom with new technology

April 18, 2018

Faune Nicholas’ class thought they were in trouble when they were called to the gym on Monday morning. They didn’t expect that Principal Lori Thomsen was keeping an amazing secret from them.

The secret: their class was one of four in Canada to win the Compugen “Create, Collaborate, Innovate” classroom contest. The grand prize: fifteen brand new HP Probook x360 notebooks, as well as the amazing HP Sprout Pro — a tablet/Computer hybrid, with 3D scanning technology —; a total of $15,000 of technology for their classroom.

Oh yeah, as celebration, they were given their own private dance party!

Representatives from Microsoft, Dell, HP, and Compugen came out to grant the award. The students and their teacher, Faune Nicholas, didn’t know they’d won, up until entering the gym. They were in shock.

The surprise soon turned into excitement, and the kids decorated themselves in fun hats and noise-makers. After enjoying a celebratory cake, they took off celebrating.

The class, including the teacher, will be trained on the new technology, so they can implement it in their classroom learning activities.
