The Regular Meeting of the Langley Board of Education begins at 7:00 PM on October 20, 2020.

Superintendent’s Report
Truth and Reconciliation
Principal of Aboriginal Education Mike Pue provided an update to the Board of Education on Truth and Reconciliation. He started his presentation by thanking staff in Aboriginal Education and acknowledging Traditional Territories. He focused on the importance of learning and how Reconciliation is a reflective journey that requires each individual to hold Indigenous Knowledge as Equal to Knowledge that has come from elsewhere, and examine deeply their relationship to Indigenous People. He provided reflections from the District’s Orange Shirt Day initiatives from schools across the District. He highlighted the District’s Cultural Presenters Program, and the work in teaching language and culture, for example the creation of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ webpage on the District website. He outlined the importance of the TRC’s 94 calls to action but also noted the work required from individuals. He closed the presentation with two resources shared with the Board of Education.

Board Policies and District Administrative Procedures – Notice of Motion
Superintendent Gord Stewart explained the background of this item, noting the Board Policies and District Administrative Procedures were outdated and needed to be replaced. He mentioned staff have worked on completing this task for months and direction from the Board on next steps was needed.
Recommendation: That the Board of Education serves Notice of Motion to the District’s education community and its education partner groups that it intends to rescind all current Board Policies, Regulations, and Administrative Procedures effective December 15, 2020.

New Business
Recommendation: Be it resolved the Langley Board of Education, School District No. 35 focuses their work on agreed upon items within the 94 Call to Actions so that we will move our country forward, continuing on our path of Reconciliation.
