Superintendent’s Report – District Transitions Goal

Assistant Superintendents Woody Bradford and Mal Gill, along with Director of Instruction, Dawne Tomlinson presented on District Transition Goals, these are objectives to help students prepare themselves for their journey after secondary school. Bradford opened with the District’s target goal of increasing Langley’s six-year dogwood (including Evergreen) completion rate to 93% (in this case completion rate means graduation rate). The District’s 2018-2019 six-year completion rate is 89.7 which is slightly higher than the provincial rate which is 88.8. He recognized that completion is important but another goal is to develop educated citizens. He outlined a number of strategies schools have in their action plans to help students successfully transition. The presentation focused on the implementation of the re-designed curriculum and visual examples of Career Education Curriculum such as Trades programs and Capstone projects at the secondary school level.
