Day of Mourning for Workers Killed and Injured (Wendy Cook, New Westminster and District Labour Council)
A video presentation was presented to recognize the Day of Mourning for Workers Killed and Injured, which will be observed on Wednesday April 28, 2021. One minute of silence was held to recognize and raise awareness for the day.

Superintendent’s Report
Lessons Learned from the Transition Support Model
Superintendent Gord Stewart opened the presentation to reflect on the District’s journey over the last year, which began with the operation of the learning hubs last Spring, school start-up in September, and the implementation of the Transition Support Model (TSM). Stewart highlighted the hard work of District Principal Sam Muraca and his work on continuing the TSM program past December.
Sam Muraca thanked and acknowledged his team of teachers and the departments that helped get the system operating including Human Resources, Information Technology, and Instructional Services among others. He noted there were more than 30 divisions (classes) created as part of the program and more than 30 teachers. He also thanked parents for their support and engagement on the journey. He explained challenges included ELL engagement, parent engagement, student engagement, and staffing. He introduced three teachers who shared success stories.
Kindergarten teacher Katie Behboudi talked about the positive experiences including engaging students with guest speakers, teaching meaningful lessons, and being able to connect with students in a safe space.
Grade 3 teacher Kyna Reinsdorf explained her strategy at the start was to focus on making connections, building community, building relationships which continued through the school year. She experienced success working with small groups, one-on-one, and a variety of formats. She shared examples of students who have thrived and were provided opportunities that would not normally be possible in an in-person classroom experience.
Grade 4 teacher Naomi Hesketh outlined the growth of her students since September. She says the individualized learning has been an asset to her students and offered opportunities for support for learners that needed it.
District Principal Sam Muraca closed the presentation with positive feedback and heartfelt responses from students, staff, and families.

District Calendars 2022-23 and 2023-24
Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Barry Bunyan is bringing forward two years of District calendars for the Board to approve. He explained the month-long consultation process closed. He explained the distinction between the District calendars and the school calendars. He noted calendar compliance which are all of requirements in a calendar and reviewed the calendars for the Board.
Recommendation: That the Board of Education approves the District Calendars for school years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, as presented.

School Calendars 2021-2022
Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Barry Bunyan is bringing forward school calendars which are more detailed than the District calendars. These calendars include details such as report card prep date. He explained there are different sets of calendars depending on choice schools. He reviewed calendar compliance some of the requirements in the calendars and highlighted important dates. He reviewed the different calendars.
Recommendation: That the Board of Education approves the Schools Calendars for the 2021-22 school year, as presented

Secretary-Treasurer’s Reports
Annual Facilities Grant 2020-2021
Secretary-Treasurer Brian Iseli presented the Annual Facilities Grant for 2020-2021 update for the District.
Recommendation: That the Board of Education approves the Annual Facilities Grant 2021/2022 spending plan as presented.

Capital Response Letter- Phase 1
Secretary-Treasurer Brian Iseli presented the Capital Plan Response Letter update for the District. He explained it was broken down into stages. Examples of proposed next projects include DW Poppy Plumbing upgrades and Peter Ewart Middle window upgrades. It is required for the Board to pass a bylaw for the Capital Response Letter.
Recommendation: That the Board of Education receives the Capital Plan Response Letter – Stage 1 for information as presented.
