District Athletes Land on Podium at Track and Field Provincials

Langley School District athletes put on quite a show on their home turf, winning numerous medals at the BC High School Track and Field Championships, which were held at McLeod Park last week.
Two District athletes led the way with three medals apiece. R.E. Mountain Secondary’s Madison Gordon won gold in senior girls long jump, with a winning leap of 5.54 metres, while also picking up two silver medals, in high jump and heptathlon. The District’s other triple-medal winner was Walnut Grove Secondary’s Zimo Liu, who won gold in junior boys 100m hurdles, and was second in both 300m hurdles and junior boys octathlon.
Others to finish on the track-and-field podium were Langley Fine Arts’ Hayden Hall, who won bronze in senior boys 400m with a time of 50.52 seconds; Langley Secondary’s Mackenzie Hurtubise, who won gold in junior girls pole vault with a winning throw of 3.78m; and R.E. Mountain’s Chase Longley, who was second in both the junior boys discus and hammer throw.
Walnut Grove Secondary’s Keira Blair also landed on the podium at provincials, winning a silver medal in junior girls race-walk with a time of eight minutes, 31.37 seconds. Bernardo Sada also won a silver medal, in the junior boys 1,500m, while Griffin Wallan won bronze in senior boys pole vault with a throw of 3.40m.
Walnut Grove also won two relay medals: the junior boys 4×400 team won gold, with a time of 3:31.77, and the junior boys 4×100 team placed second in a time of 44.96 seconds.
