Langley Superintendent of Schools seconded to BC Ministry of Education

Langley, BC – BC Ministry of Education Deputy Minister Dave Byng announced Friday, March 11, 2016 that Langley School District Superintendent of Schools Suzanne Hoffman has been seconded by the Ministry to join a team of field-based educators dedicated to working with districts around the province on the 3-year implementation of curriculum, assessment and reporting.

Ms. Hoffman’s secondment is for a 2-year period commencing May 1, though she will transition through May and June completing current projects in the District such as the consultation around the proposed catchment changes on the Willoughby Slope. Ms. Hoffman is an experienced school and district administrator and has always had a passion for curriculum development and implementation over her 25 year career in education. As part of this newly-formed team working for the Ministry of Education, Ms. Hoffman will work to support districts, superintendents, principals, teachers and parents as they work to understand and implement the changes in curriculum, assessment and reporting and the graduation years.

“The Board is very grateful for the significant leadership Suzanne has provided to the District over the past four years”, said Board of Education Chair Robert McFarlane, “her dedication and her collaborative, inclusive and caring style have created a true sense of ‘community’ in our District and we thank her for that and wish her all the best in her secondment.”

Effective May 1, 2016 Mr. Gord Stewart will be appointed Acting Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Stewart has shown leadership in his role of Assistant Superintendent in the Langley District and will continue to do so in his new appointment. Mr. Stewart brings 27 years of experience as an educator and administrator and is looking forward to carrying on the current initiatives within the District while continuing to make the Langley School District an innovative, inspiring and unified learning community. A search to select his replacement as Assistant Superintendent of Schools will commence shortly.
