Agenda
The Langley Board of Education held its inaugural meeting in front of an in-person and online audience. This meeting was the official swearing in of the newly elected Board of Education.
Singing of the National Anthem
The meeting opened with the singing of the national anthem “O Canada” by Langley Fine Arts student Claire Jun.

Honouring and Blessing (Kwantlen First Nation)
This was followed by an honouring and blessing from members of the Kwantlen First Nation. Chief Marilyn Gabriel of the Kwantlen First Nation, along with her family, drummed and sang as part of their traditional welcome. Chief Gabriel, her spouse Kevin Kelly, and son Michael Kelly-Gabriel shared congratulatory messages with the Board. They spoke about the strong relationship with the District and Board and highlighted the need for the continued work in ensuring every child matters in our system. They closed with drumming and a song, which they explained were prayer offerings.

Oath of Office
Each individual Board member took an oath of office and was sworn in by Honourable Judge Jodie Harris. As part of this ceremonial process, each individual Board member recited the oath and signed documentation to take on their official role as a trustee.

Election of Chair
The Board voted for a new Chair. Trustee Candy Ashdown was voted as the Chair.
Recommendation: That the ballots for the election of the Chairperson be destroyed.

Election of Vice-Chair
The Board voted for a new Vice-Chair. Trustee Holly Dickinson was voted as the Vice-Chair.
Recommendation: That the ballots for the election of the Vice-Chairperson be destroyed.
