LFAS Student Joins Canadian ‘WE Day’ Tour
September 27, 2018

Congratulations Asalah Yousef, grade 10 student from LFAS! Principal Jon Bonnar describes Asalah as “…an outstanding student who contributes throughout the school – as a Photo Major, an Actor and on school leadership teams”. Mr. Bonnar went on to exclaim, “this is a great story about the power of entrepreneurs and engaged youth!”
Asalah’s mother Allison Yousef provided us Asalah’s story to date:
Asalah has always been socially and community minded and for many years has volunteered and organized things for the WE organization.
In March she had the opportunity to attend a workshop about becoming a social entrepreneur. She loved every minute of it and submitted a business idea. From that idea she won a trip to Ontario in August where she worked with people from the WE organization at their head office in Toronto and she was also mentored by RBC representatives. She impressed them enough to secure seed funding for her project. Since then we have been in contact with the writers and producers of WE Day and they confirmed that they want Asalah to not only speak at WE Day but to do the WE Day tour across Canada (if you are not familiar with WE Day and it’s impact here is the link – https://www.we.org/we-day/ ) .
The tour kicks off next week in Toronto, the following week she will speak at the UN We Day in New York and after that in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa and ending in Vancouver on November 22nd.
Asalah just arrived back from Toronto where she spoke to 20,000 youth at The Scotiabank Arena, was interviewed by CTV, YTV and many other local stations. She was also interviewed by The Globe and Mail. Here is the article. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/article-incubator-prepares-the-entrepreneurs-of-tomorrow/
