Reading Link Challenge encourages the sport of reading

March 13, 2018

Six teams of grade 4 and 5 students have been preparing for the district’s Reading Link Challenge since November. They were given six books to read and study, knowing that they would soon be required to answer a series of comprehension questions about each.

Teams worked together through 3 rounds of 10 questions to come up with correct answers. The team with the most correct answers would then be given the chance to compete district wide against teams from 14 other schools. From there, the best district team moves on to compete against other districts including Surrey and Abbotsford.

At James Kennedy, classmates and parents watched as the six teams participated in the challenge. All teams performed amazingly, resulting in all teams placing. However, one team will go on to represent the school later this year.

According to the Reading Link Challenge website, it is a “province-wide program for students in grades 4 and 5 that promotes the ‘sport of reading.'”
