HD Stafford prepares for The Big One with Shakezone

Shakezone made its second stop in the Langley School District at HD Stafford Middle School on Friday, October 13. Sponsored by the Insurance Bureau of Canada and the Langley School District, the earthquake simulator came to educate students on what it would be like to experience an 8.0 scale quake.

Grade 6 and 7 classes took turns in groups of three, boarding the simulator. Though most of them enjoyed the ride, it helped them to understand the severity of that level of quake. Instructions were given before hand, running through the basics of drop, cover, hold on, as well as when and how to evacuate a building following the initial shake.

The simulator will be coming to Kwantlen Polytechnic University campus October 14 for the Langley Emergency Preparedness Fair. During this event, the public is welcome to come and try the simulator. For more details on the event, visit: Langley Emergency Preparedness page.
