Blacklock Fine Arts presents “From Far and Wide”
May 8, 2017
Students from Blacklock Fine Arts Elementary staged a performance for parents and classmates on May 3. Divisions 1 through 4 organized the show “From Far and Wide”, which featured drama, dance, and choir with instrumental accompaniment.
The play took place in a Canadian airport, as a diverse group of people with diverse backgrounds discussed the reasons why they were happy to be in Canada. Those people’s stories were expanded into performances that highlighted their struggles and glories. Some came from war-torn countries, while others immigrated long ago when Canada was nothing more than a frontier. It was a celebration of what made Canada such a great country to live in.
Songs were sung in three different languages by choir, with performances on piano, violin, and xylophone.
The play closed in a French and English performance of O Canada, with parents and assembly standing to sing along.
Two showings took place, in the afternoon and evening, for the full enjoyment of families and friends. Donations were taken at the door to fund future shows and space purchases.
Following the play, parents were encouraged to visit the newest art gallery, showcasing a variety of student talent.
