Grade 8’s discover trades at UFV
March 31, 2017
350 students from five schools (BGMS, Yorkson, HDSMS, LFMS & LFAS) explored the world of skilled trades on March 2nd at UFV’s Trades & Technology campus in Chilliwack. Instructors and UFV students were available to guide students in the use of tools and equipment at all the interactive stations.
Students used the paint sprayer in the autobody shop, applied air brakes and climbed into the cab of a Peterbilt truck in the heavy mechanical shop, used the welding simulator, pounded nails and admired projects in the carpentry/joinery shop, had their hair painted with sparkles at the hairdressing station and watched teams from other schools competing in the robotics lab.
“It was a great opportunity for these kids. Fun to see them try their hands at riveting or changing tires, etc. Overall, very worthwhile.”
– D. Thomas, LFMS
